Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if my child is eligible for funding through many programs?
Based on your child’s needs, they may be eligible for additional funding through Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and Alberta Education. Lead can coordinate both programs using one Lead team and/or we will collaborate with other Service Providers. Children can be 2 years, 8 months to under 6 years of age as of September 1 of that year.
Q: Does the age of my child matter to access programs?
Different programs have different restrictions on the eligibility of programs for children. Lead staff focus on providing services for children under 6 years of age.
- Alberta Education: Children between the ages of 2 years, 8 months and 5 years, 11 months (as of Sept. 1 of that year).
- FSCD: Children between 0 – 6 years of age are the priority at Lead.
- Triple P: 0 – 17 years of age

Q: How do I know if my child is eligible for government funding?
We are here to help. Eligibility for government funding is determined by the applicable funder. You may need to gather additional information such as assessments and reports to request funding. Contact us if you need guidance in knowing where to start. Please visit the Alberta Education website and/or the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) website for further information on government funding and eligibility.
Q: Does Lead have its own daycare or preschool location?
By choice, we do not have our own preschool location. Lead believes in supporting families in their own community and in their chosen Early Childhood Services program (e.g., community preschool, daycare or kindergarten program).
Q: Does Lead pay for preschool fees?
Lead may be able to pay for preschool or daycare fees and support your access to early learning in your community. Feel free to Contact Us to discuss options.
Q: Does Lead provide programs outside of Calgary?
Yes! We offer programs for children and their families in Calgary and surrounding areas. Give us a call to ask about your programs.
Q: Do I need to be at home during my child’s home program sessions?
As a family focused organization, our motto, “Your Child, Your Lead” encompasses our belief that parents know their child best. Our team is here to support you in learning how to help your child and family achieve your goals. Although it is not mandatory, parent involvement in learning opportunities is invaluable to both your and your child’s success. While you do not need to be directly involved in home sessions, we do require a parent or guardian over the age of 18 present in the home at all times during sessions.
Q: Does Lead provide transportation for my child?
No, we do not provide transportation. Alberta Education does provide a grant to support parents driving their children to daycare or preschool programs. Talk to your team about eligibility.
Q: What type of parent supports do you offer at Lead, and how can I participate?
Lead offers a range of supports for parents and caregivers. These include information sessions, family-friendly events, and opportunities to connect with other caregivers. Our supports are designed to help build skills, share practical strategies, and foster a sense of community among families. All caregivers of children in Lead programs are welcome to take part.
